The cheap taping knife that cost me 3 hours of rework last week

Picked up a $5 taping knife from the big box store for a quick bathroom job and the blade flexed so bad on the butt joints I had to sand and retape the whole corner. Has anyone else had luck with those mid-range stainless knives or is it worth saving for a high-end one?

Yeah I just got a mid-range one with a stainless blade and it never flexed on me once.

The stainless ones hold up way better than the coated ones once you get past the first few sharpening jobs.

Just what I need, a knife that holds up past the "first few" sharpenings. Because nothing says quality like surviving its own second trip to the stone. So the cheap coated ones are basically disposable, got it. Might as well just buy a new one every month and call it a subscription service. I can already picture the ad: "Knife of the Month Club, for people who hate commitment and love dull edges." But sure, I'll trust the stainless gang with my chopping future.
