The garage ceiling I textured in April still looks brand new
Back in April I did a skim coat and orange peel texture on a buddy's garage ceiling in Phoenix. He parks his truck in there every day, slams the door, and never once complained about dust or cracks. Last week I went back to help him hang some shelves and I could not find a single seam or fastener pop. That got me wondering, is it the mesh tape plus hot mud combo I used, or just the dry Arizona heat keeping things stable? Has anyone else had a texture job hold up way better than expected in a rough environment like a garage or workshop?

Hot mud and mesh tape won me over after seeing that, garage heat clearly does the trick too.

Actually, hot mud and mesh tape are solid, but the real hero here is the Arizona heat. That dry air pulls moisture out of the mud crazy fast, so it cures hard and tight before any shifting can happen. In a humid garage, you'd see more movement and little cracks show up by now. Also, orange peel texture hides a lot of small imperfections that flat finishes would show off. So it's not just the combo, it's the environment doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
