Took me 5 years to realize I was over-taping my inside corners.

Caught myself on a job last Tuesday in Portland when a guy saw my roll and asked why I was using 3-inch tape on a standard corner bead, has anyone else had an old-timer call out a bad habit you didn't even know you had?

Too much mud on your first coat" is exactly how you get the tape to actually bond and not bubble up later, thin coats are why guys end up with tape peeling in six months.

Old timers have a way of spotting things you've been doing wrong for years without even knowing it. My dad called me out for using too much mud on my first coat when I was starting out, I was basically filling the whole corner instead of just bedding the tape. Once you see it you can't unsee it, and your work gets cleaner and faster to boot.

Tape peeling in six months? Sounds like a different problem, not the mud.
