Walked into a remodel and saw my own seams from 2006

Got called to patch a ceiling in a house on Maple Street, the same neighborhood where I hung board back when I first started. The homeowner showed me the room, and there it was, my old taper line with a couple of humps I never fixed. Back then we used 45 minute mud and a 6 inch knife for everything, no stilts, just a shaky ladder and a prayer. Now I carry a cordless auto taper and a pan that holds my mud for hours, and I can flat out hit a level 5 without breaking a sweat. I fixed those humps in about 30 minutes with hot mud and a 12 inch skimming blade, and it made me think about how much we leaned on skill versus tools. Young guys today never hand mix a bucket of compound or set screws with a brace and bit, and honestly, I don't blame them. Do you ever look back at your old work and wonder how you survived with what you had, or is it just me? Has anyone else run into their own handiwork from a decade plus ago and been embarrassed or proud?
