Warning: a homeowner in Denver called my finish 'sandy' and I finally listened

He said my mud looked like I mixed it with beach sand, so I switched from a paddle on a drill to a proper mixing drill and it's smooth now. Anyone else have a client give you a tip that actually stuck?

So the paddle was just for show?

Funny how the people who have to live with the work sometimes see it clearer than the pro who's just trying to get it done. You see it with food, where a kid will say the sauce is too spicy, or with a website where your mom can't find the button you designed. They don't know the process, they just know the result feels off. Makes you wonder what other simple fixes we're all missing because we're too close to it, right?

That's a good one. The homeowner basically gave you a free apprenticeship. It's like getting cooking advice from the guy who just ate your burnt casserole. Sometimes you need that outside eye to point out the obvious thing you've been missing for years.
