Warning: The new lightweight mud is a lot different than the stuff from three years ago
Three years ago on a big job in Spokane, we used the old heavy compound and it felt like it took forever to dry. Last week I tried a new brand of lightweight mud on a repair in my own garage, and it set up so fast I almost messed up my second coat. Has anyone else had to change their timing with these new mixes?

Yeah, it's not just mud. Everything's getting faster now. My quick-set concrete mix cures in 30 minutes. Even the paint in my kitchen dried way quicker than the old stuff. You have to move fast or you're stuck with a messed up finish.

Oh wow, that actually makes so much sense now. I always thought it was just me being slower or the weather acting weird. But if the stuff itself is just made to set faster, that explains why I messed up that last patch job. You really can't take your time anymore.
