Had a 200 amp panel go hot on me in an old apartment building downtown last month. The main lugs were loose from years of vibration and the whole thing started humming like a transformer. Shut it down, called the utility, and spent four hours replacing every connection. Anyone else run into something like that in a multi-unit?

Our old complex in Midtown had that same hum last winter.

That low hum is usually the building's boiler pump or a big HVAC unit. Had a client in a similar building on 5th Ave who complained about the same thing. The super told them it was the old circulator pump bearings going bad. A good handyman can sometimes tighten it up or add insulation to dampen the sound.

Wait, that was a building thing? I always thought it was just my old fridge.

@price.linda did yours get worse when the weather turned cold last winter?
