Had a job last Tuesday that made me want to throw my tools in the river
Spent 6 hours chasing a phantom short in a 1960s house near downtown. Found it inside a junction box buried behind drywall some handyman patched over. Is it just me or do old houses always hide the worst surprises?

That junction box buried behind drywall" really got me. Did the previous owners do a lot of that kind of stuff, or was it just that one spot that was a total nightmare?

The buried junction box thing drives me nuts because its never just one. I swear every old house has that one room where the previous owner was like "eh good enough" and just threw drywall over a mess. The worst part is finding three other hidden boxes after you finally give up on the first one. One time I found a splice just wrapped in electrical tape stuffed inside a wall cavity with no box at all. Old houses are basically a treasure hunt for all the shortcuts people took over 60 years. Its honestly a miracle half these places dont burn down every summer.
