Had to decide between aluminum and copper wire for a house I was rewiring last week

I read somewhere that copper is better for carrying electricity but aluminum is lighter and cheaper. Heard a lot of old houses had aluminum wiring back in the 60s and 70s and it caused problems with fires if not installed right. That always stuck with me. For a whole house rewire I feel like copper is the safer bet even if it costs more upfront. I would not want to worry about loose connections down the road.

You ever seen what happens when aluminum oxidizes at a connection? That stuff is scary. Copper all the way if you're doing it right the first time.

Heard an electrician say copper expands less with heat, so connections stay tighter.
