I finally found a trick for fishing wire through insulated walls without tearing everything apart

I was stuck on a rewire in a 1950s house in Denver last week and tried using a magnet on a string to grab my fish tape through the blown-in insulation, and it worked on the first try - has anyone else tried this method for tricky attic runs?

My magnet trick worked great until I dropped it in a wall cavity three years ago.

Lost mine behind a bookshelf two years ago and I still think about it every time I walk past that spot... I swear that magnet had some kind of emotional attachment to me by then, we'd been through so many dropped screws together. Tried fishing it out with a coat hanger and duct tape but just made things worse, now there's a bent hanger stuck in there too. Every six months I tell myself I'll cut a hole in the drywall but I never do... it's like my own personal archeological site in there now.
