My neighbor's new 'smart' lights kept tripping his breaker and I finally asked why
He was bragging about his new setup, all controlled by his phone. Then he said the breaker for his living room popped three times in two days. I asked how many fixtures he had on that one 15-amp circuit. Turns out he put six LED fixtures, two floor lamps, and the TV on it, thinking LEDs use 'no power'. I had to explain that while each one is low draw, the total load still adds up, especially with inrush current when they all turn on at once. How do you guys explain load calculation to homeowners without making their eyes glaze over?

Ugh, my brain's breaker would trip too trying to explain that math!

Wait, you're telling me there's a house fire warning in the app and people still ignore it? That's wild, like how do you miss a literal safety alert on your phone. Ngl, that math problem sounds like it should come with its own fire extinguisher.

Smart home, dumb math. The future is here and it still can't do basic addition. Maybe the next app update should include a warning before you burn your house down for the vibe.
