PSA: bought a $12 neon tester at a pawn shop in Tulsa and it nearly got me hurt
I trusted that thing on a 240 circuit and it lit up like it was dead, so I grabbed the wire and got a bite that knocked me back into a shelf. Tossed it and went back to my $80 Fluke, lesson cost me a bruise and a chewed up ego. Anyone got a cheap voltage tester they actually trust or is that just a lost cause?
That $12 tester from a pawn shop was probably dropped off a truck and never calibrated a day in its life. Kinda the same deal as dollar store brake pads or a gas station sushi roll, the cheap version works right up until the exact moment it matters most. Stick with the Fluke, that bruise was cheaper than the ER bill.
