Shop lights on a ladder finally beat my trusty headlamp
Had to swap out four ballasts in a warehouse ceiling last month and kept going back and forth between my old headlamp and a cheap magnetic work light I clipped to the ladder. The headlamp left shadows right where I needed to see the wire nuts, and after the third time redoing a connection by feel, I got fed up. I moved the magnetic light to the top rung and angled it down, and suddenly I could actually see the terminal screws without leaning in weird. Finished the whole job in about two hours instead of the four I budgeted. Got a 2000 lumen model with a swivel head for around $40, and it paid for itself on that single call. Anyone else found a better setup for overhead work that doesn't involve holding a light in your mouth?

Skip the ladder clip and hang the light from the ceiling joist instead.
