Showerthought: I was way off about how much power a standard ceiling fan actually draws

Found a chart in an old NEC handbook showing most residential models run under 100 watts, even on high. Always assumed they were bigger loads when adding circuits. Anyone else ever get surprised by the actual numbers on common fixtures?

Yeah, that happens with a lot of appliances.

Did you try unplugging it for 10 minutes and plugging it back in?

Oh man, actually it's usually more like 30 seconds that does the trick for most stuff. @faithpatel is right though, the 10 minute trick works better for things with capacitors or older electronics that need a full drain. For a toaster or a basic lamp, 30 seconds unplugged is probably enough to reset the simple stuff inside.
