That ceiling fan with the bad cap ate my whole evening

Had a service call two weeks ago in Austin for a ceiling fan that hummed but wouldn't spin. Thought it was the switch or maybe a bad motor, so I spent an hour checking everything. Turns out the run capacitor was dead, 4.5 uF rating but tested at zero. I swapped it with a 5 uF from my van and it fired right up. Dude tipped me $20 and said his wife had been patient for like three months. I shoulda checked the cap first, that's the classic move. Anyone else keep spare capacitors in weird sizes or just buy the common ones?

Bet the knob was fine too, those caps fail silently every time.
