TIL my old habit of just twisting wire nuts on by hand was fine until a ceiling fan in a Tucson attic last week. The vibration after a month made one pop off and the whole thing started swinging like a disco ball.

Yeah, gotta crank them down tight. Hand tight is fine for a light, but anything with vibration needs the extra turn with pliers. That's how you avoid a surprise light show.

Funny how that pattern shows up everywhere, not just in wiring. @riverb13, I've noticed the same thing with furniture assembly, like if you don't crank down those bolts on a desk it'll wobble after a month of typing. Vibration just finds the weak spots every time.

Wire nuts need pliers, not just fingers.
