Finally gave in and bought a proper hot air station for SMD work
I was using a cheap heat gun for years, but the Yihua 862D I got last week has a digital readout and way better airflow control. It made replacing a BGA chip on a laptop motherboard feel almost easy. Anyone else have a favorite tool that felt like a huge upgrade?

Upgrading from a cheap heat gun is like going from a blowtorch to a scalpel. The digital readout on those stations is a game changer, you finally stop just guessing at the temperature. My old method was basically just waving a tornado of death at the board and hoping for the best.
