Honestly, I used to think fixing a cracked screen was just a quick swap job.

This older guy brought his tablet into my shop in Tacoma last week, and after I quoted him the repair, he just sighed and said, 'The screen's the easy part, kid, but did you check the digitizer ribbon cable for stress fractures from the impact?' Ngl, I hadn't, and sure enough there was a tiny tear I would've missed. How often do you guys do a full connector check before ordering parts?

Saw a forum post where a tech said they check every port and flex cable with a loupe before even opening the parts cabinet. Makes sense to avoid callbacks.

Ever run into that? I learned to check the whole chain after a similar headache.

Oh totally, the "whole chain" thing hit home for me. I had a job last month where I replaced a bad cable only to get a callback the next week because the port it plugged into was cracked (ugh). @patel.morgan's mention of using a loupe is smart, not gonna lie. I've been burned by tiny flex cable tears that you can't see without looking real close, especially on those thin ribbon cables. Now I check everything from the connector pins to the cable jacket before I button up a repair, just to be safe.

My last three callbacks were all from missing a small cable tear.
