Just realized my $12 heat gun beats the $60 hot air station on shrink tubing
I do a lot of wire repairs and splice jobs, and for years I used a hot air reflow station for heat shrink because that's what the guy who trained me used. Last Tuesday I grabbed the cheap heat gun off the shelf because the station was tied up on a board, and the tubing shrank even and tight in about 4 seconds instead of the usual 10 or so with the nozzle. The gun also doesn't cook the insulation next to the splice if I keep it moving, which the station does if I get lazy. I've run maybe 30 splices with it now and haven't touched the station for shrink at all. Am I missing something here, or is this just one of those cases where the cheap tool wins? Curious what the rest of you grab for heat shrink on a normal harness repair.
