Shoutout to the guy at the thrift store who sold me that old soldering station

I was digging through a Goodwill in Portland last weekend and found a Weller soldering station from the 90s for $12. Got it home, cleaned the tip, and it heats up faster than my newer one. Has anyone else had luck with vintage gear from random places like that?

My buddy Dave found a 1980s Hakko 936 at a garage sale in Eugene for like 8 bucks. The guy said it was broken but Dave just had to replace the fuse and clean the pot. He's been using it for like 3 years now and swears it works better than his brand new Chinese station. Vintage gear from that era was built to last forever, not like the plastic stuff you find today. It's kind of crazy how much quality stuff people just give away without knowing what they have.

Yeah man, that's always a great feeling when old gear turns out better than new stuff.
