TIL the repair bench at the aviation museum in Ogden has a 1930s soldering iron with a cloth cord
I stopped by the Hill Aerospace Museum in Ogden last Saturday and they have a whole display of old bench tools, including a soldering iron with a cloth wrapped cord that looks like it would catch fire if you looked at it wrong. It made me think about how much of our trade is just dealing with sketchy old wiring that somebody else rigged up 40 years ago. Anybody else ever run into a repair where the previous fix was scarier than the original fault?
