Update: a board repair tech in Austin mentioned he sees 4 out of 5 dead laptops come in with the exact same blown cap, is that normal?
I opened 12 dead Dell boards this month and 9 of them had the same bulged cap right next to the CPU, which makes me think it's a known bad batch and not random failures, so I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing this pattern or if I'm just unlucky with the units coming through my bench.

Known bad batch" makes sense, but have you checked if those 9 boards came from the same lot or supplier?
