Update: spent 6 hours last Tuesday chasing a dead short on a 2019 MacBook Pro board, and it was a single grain of solder paste
Found it under the microscope at 40x magnification after I'd already reflowed two chips and replaced a capacitor that tested fine, so now I'm wondering how many other boards I've scrapped over the years because I didn't just clean the damn thing first, anyone else got a stupid-simple fix that cost them way too much bench time?
