Warning: I was wasting so much time on old laptop hinges

Honestly, for years I'd just replace the whole hinge assembly on a Dell Latitude 5000 series when it got loose, which took about 45 minutes. Ngl, I saw a video from a guy in Seattle last month showing you can often just tighten the tiny M2 screws under the bezel that hold the hinge bracket to the lid. Tried it on two units this week and it fixed them both in under 10 minutes. Has anyone else found a simple fix for a job they used to overcomplicate?

That Seattle guy's video was a real eye-opener.

Seems a bit overblown, @iris_thomas85.

Wait, you really think that video was overblown? I watched the whole thing and it showed some pretty solid evidence that a lot of people are missing. The way he broke down the timeline with the security footage was convincing to me. I've seen similar stuff happen in my own neighborhood, so it's not just some random internet theory. Maybe it hit close to home for you, but I think there's more to it than you're giving credit for.

omg yes that Seattle guy's videos are a lifesaver fr fr. last week i had an old hp envy that i was ready to chuck in the trash bc the screen kept wobbling. watched his tip about popping off the plastic caps on the bottom corners and tightening those tiny screws under there. took me like 5 minutes with a mini screwdriver and it's rock solid now. i've been doing the full disassembly thing for years like a fool. feels great to save that time and not have to mess with all those ribbon cables and stuff.
