When a repair job asked me to overlook user data, I made a call.
They valued my honesty and became a repeat client.

My cousin runs a small IT shop in Denver. He had a client ask him to recover deleted files from a company laptop last year. The client hinted they did not own the laptop anymore. My cousin said no and explained the legal risks. That client was upset at first but came back six months later with proper paperwork. Now they send all their data recovery work his way.

My old neighbor tried that once. He brought me a phone he "found" and asked if I could get the photos off it. I told him to take it to the police station. He got mad and said I wasn't being a good friend. But what was I supposed to do, help him steal someone's memories? It's not about being nice, it's about not being part of a crime.
