Debate: How long should a simple relay swap really take?

I spent 6 hours last Tuesday replacing a K10 relay in an Otis elevator that should have taken maybe 45 minutes tops. The wiring diagram was wrong and I kept chasing a ghost short that turned out to be a corroded terminal block on the back of the panel. Has anyone else run into hidden issues that made a routine job drag out way longer than expected?

Six hours for a relay swap sounds like a you problem.

Did you actually trace the circuit first, @abbyf79, or just start yanking parts?

My neighbor spent three hours trying to fix his coffee maker before realizing he'd unplugged it by accident. People skip the obvious stuff when they're frustrated, and it costs them way more time than just stopping to look first. Same with my friend who kept replacing her car battery until a mechanic pointed out a loose ground wire. We all just wanna grab the quick fix instead of checking the simple things first.
