How does a $400 meter just DIE?

My $500 camera died after three months, so I feel your pain, the_rose. Expensive stuff can just have a hidden flaw from the factory. It's a special kind of frustration when it happens.

Honestly, sometimes you just get a lemon. Price doesn't always mean it's bulletproof.

Price doesn't mean it's bulletproof" is exactly right. It's a pattern I see everywhere now, not just with tools. We pay more expecting reliability but companies just slap a premium on stuff that's built the same as the cheap version. Ever noticed how your car's fancy infotainment system glitches more than a $80 tablet would?
