Had a weird moment with a stuck elevator in my own building last Tuesday
I live in a 12-story walk-up, and the one elevator has been finicky for months. Last Tuesday, it got stuck between floors 5 and 6 with a delivery guy inside. I was just walking by and heard him knocking. Instead of calling the super, I grabbed my tools and talked him through the manual door release from the outside. Got him out in maybe 15 minutes. It hit me that I fix these things all day, but never really thought about what happens when one breaks where I live. Kinda changed how I see my own building's maintenance. Anyone else ever had to do an unofficial rescue at home?

That "click when it turned" feeling @path47 mentioned is so real, right? It's like your brain just pulls the answer from nowhere. Does doing that kind of fix make you look at your own home differently now, like checking all the locks?

Ever feel like a secret agent now?

Yeah, that's a wild feeling. Had my neighbor's kid lock himself in a bathroom once, the kind with the old push-button lock. I mean, I just grabbed a flathead screwdriver from my junk drawer and talked him through sliding it into the slot from his side. Took two tries but the click when it turned was so satisfying. Makes you realize how much random stuff you know just from living somewhere.
