Hot take: The new code for firefighter service in Chicago changed how we run our control wires

I mean, before 2022, we could run the fire service wiring in the same bundle as the car call buttons. Now the inspectors are making us keep it totally separate, with its own conduit from the machine room to the cab. It adds like 2 hours to a standard mod job. Has anyone else in a big city had to deal with this, or is it just a Chicago thing?

My cousin's an electrician in Philly and he was complaining about the same rule change last month. Said it's adding a ton of time to his retrofit jobs too.

Totally hear that from your cousin. The new code is making simple service upgrades take twice as long now (which is brutal for homeowners on a budget). Just feels like more red tape without much real world benefit sometimes.

What's the point if it just makes everything slower?

But isn't safety worth the extra time?
