I Ran My Hydraulic Jacks 400 Hours Past Service and a Gal in Amarillo Made Me Rethink It
I used to think hydraulic jack oil was one of those things you just top off when it looks low, no schedule needed. Then two winters back I was on a 4 stop mod in Amarillo and a gal on the crew, been turning wrenches 22 years, watched me bleed a jack and asked when I last swapped the fluid. I said probably never, she pulled her logbook out and showed me 400 hour intervals written in pen going back to 2011. She said dirty oil eats the seals from the inside and you never feel it until a car drifts. After that job I started draining every jack on my truck every 6 months and I swear the plunger action feels smoother. I know some of you will say the manual says annual, but 400 hours of actual run time piles up way faster than a calendar year in a busy building. What interval are you all actually running, hours or months?
