Just found out the hard way about hydraulic fluid temp in cold weather
We had a call at a 12-story building in Minneapolis yesterday, lift was running rough and jerky. I checked everything, valves, seals, even the pump, but it was the fluid sitting at 30 degrees that was the issue. Threw a small drum heater on the reservoir for 2 hours and it ran smooth as silk after. Anyone else dealing with winter slowdowns, check your oil temp before you start tearing things apart.

Did you know oil temp can drop how much pressure the whole system makes? Read a thing from a guy up in Duluth who ran a thermal cam on his reservoirs all winter. Said once the fluid hits below 40, you can lose a bunch of flow just from how thick it gets. He started parking a magnetic block heater on the tank overnight and the morning startups stopped groaning. Two hours with your drum heater sounds about right for a cold soak like that.
