Rope hit the door header on a downtown Reno job last Monday

We were doing a mod on a 12 stop hydraulic in a 40 year old building. The cab ran fine on inspection, but when I switched to auto, the hoist rope caught the door header on the way up. It was a 2 to 1 roping setup and the hitch was off by a few inches. I had to re-rig the whole thing on the fly, took about 4 hours extra. The super was standing there the whole time asking if we'd be done by 3 PM. We made it by 5:30, but now I double check the hitch length before we even power up. Has anyone else had a rope hit issue from a worn header or was it just my luck?

Re-rig the whole thing on the fly" hit home for me. Had a similar headache on a 3 to 1 setup last year, except the hitch was fine, the header was worn just enough to grab the rope at the top. I wasted a whole morning chasing my own work before I finally got a straight edge on the header and saw the dip. Now I always check the header wear before I even start, not just the hitch length. Saves me from that same 4 hour scramble and the super breathing down my neck. Your mileage may vary, but a cheap straight edge has bailed me out more times than I can count.
