Tried swapping a controller without powering down the car, bad move
Got a call in Phoenix for a MCE controller that kept throwing E2 codes. Thought I could hot swap it while the car sat at the top floor, save some time on the roof. Big mistake. Pulled the old board, plugged the new one in, and the safety chain dropped instantly. Car went into full locked out mode, took me 30 minutes to get it back up with a jumper. Learned my lesson the hard way. Do you guys always kill the main line before touching controllers, or am I the only one who tried this?

Yep! Always kill the main line first, takes two extra minutes and saves you the headache.
