Warning: My old lead told me to always reseat the door operator belt by feel, cost me 4 hours on a job in Tulsa
Back when I was a helper, my lead in Tulsa said you never need a tension gauge on a door operator belt, just press it with your thumb and you'll know. I believed him for 3 years and did it that way on hundreds of calls. Last week I had a 4 stop unit at a old folks home where the doors kept reversing on the close cycle, and I kept tweaking the belt by feel with zero luck. Finally borrowed a gauge from the supply house and the belt was at 38 pounds when spec calls for 55, so it was slipping just enough to trip the light curtain logic. Set it right and she ran clean the rest of the day. Anybody got a good feel trick that actually matches spec, or am I buying a gauge for my own pouch?
