Rant: That client who owe me $850 took 6 months to pay after I used a payment tracking app.

I spent 3 hours a week chasing them down with reminders and it hit me how much time I wasted when they finally paid in full, has anyone else had a overdue invoice stretch way longer than you expected?

Read a Harvard Business Review piece that said chasing late payments costs freelancers 6% of their annual income.

Man that sucks. I feel you on the "3 hours a week chasing them down" part. That's brutal. It's like they think your time is free while they sit on your money for half a year. I had one client drag a $1200 invoice out for 8 months once. Made me want to quit freelancing altogether. The worst part is knowing you could've spent that time landing new work instead. People don't realize how much mental energy it eats up too.

Oh man, that's rough... $1200 for 8 months is insane. @jesse_smith10 I think you meant 9 months though, since you said "half a year" but then said 8 months... unless it was actually 7 and a half or something. Anyway, the mental energy drain is the real killer. I had one client who owed me $600 and I'd spend every Friday morning just sending polite reminders, feeling like a debt collector instead of a designer.
