Spent $60 on a contract template and got paid within a week
Had a client sit on a $1,500 web design invoice for 6 weeks. I was tired of sending polite reminders. Picked up a freelance contract template online for $60 that had clear late payment terms and a 1.5% monthly interest clause. Sent over a new invoice with that contract attached. They paid in 3 days flat. Has anyone else had luck just changing how the invoice looks on paper?

Had a buddy of mine who does freelance graphic design try something similar. He was getting ghosted on a $2,200 branding package, so he re-did his invoice with a 2% monthly late fee clearly written out in red bold text. Client paid within 48 hours and even apologized for the delay. Sometimes it's not the price that's the problem, it's the vibe of how you present it.

Yo @taylor_wells that's actually genius. I once tried adding a "thanks for not paying me" line as a joke and the client thought I was being passive aggressive which definitely made things worse lol. But the red bold text thing makes sense, like your brain just registers it as IMPORTANT vs just another bill. I'm the worst at ignoring invoices that look all clean and minimalist. Give me something that screams LATE FEE and I'll pay out of pure embarrassment.

Is that template from the one Shawna Collins was talking about on that legal advice thread last month? @taylor_wells your buddy is right about the bold red text thing, I heard a lawyer say that visual cues like that trigger people to take deadlines seriously. It's wild how a simple formatting change can shift the whole tone of a payment request.
