Took me six hours to track down a missing payment because of one wrong digit in their invoice system
I spent my whole Saturday morning on the phone with a bank. Turns out the client's accounts payable person typed my invoice number wrong (just one digit off) and their system auto-rejected it. Has anyone else wasted a full day over something this stupid?

Are you sure it was really a whole day though? Like you probably had lunch and bathroom breaks and stuff mixed in there.
I mean yeah it's annoying but six hours seems like a lot. Couldn't you just check the invoice number against your records and call them back in 10 minutes?
Also most banks have a fraud team that can reverse payments in seconds if you just flag it right. Seems like maybe you spent a lot of time on hold or waiting for callbacks which is more the bank's fault than the typo.
Missing one digit is dumb but I've had vendors take weeks to fix an address line so comparatively this is nothing.

Take Laura's point about the bank being worse than the typo and run with it. Those automated systems are so fragile that one wrong character bricks everything, and banks make customers fight through 45-minute hold times before a person can override it. If they built some common sense into their payment matching, like flagging near-matches instead of silent rejections, this whole six-hour mess could have been a five-second glance.
