A client told me my highlighter placement was aging her, and she was right
I did a full glam on a regular at my station in Tampa last Thursday, and she looked in the mirror and said 'honey, that shimmer under my eyes is making me look 50.' I switched to placing highlight on the very tops of her cheekbones and skipping the tear duct area, and the difference was wild. Has anyone else had a client point out a technique that you'd been doing for years without questioning it?

My cousin does makeup for film crews in Atlanta and she told me the same thing about how camera flash picks up shimmer way worse than natural light. She switched to a matte cream highlight on clients over 35 and the difference is noticeable even in regular photos. It's funny, I had that same tear duct habit from watching YouTube MUA's in 2016, and it took a blunt client to make me realize I was copying a trend instead of reading the actual face in front of me. Now I ask every new client if they prefer a soft glow or a visible shine before I even pick up a brush.

man it's crazy how trends sneak into our habits without us even noticing
