Had a moment with a regular at my booth during the county fair

She comes in every year for a facial, and this time she pointed to a specific spot on her jawline. She told me, 'This area always feels tight, like it's holding onto something.' We were in my little tent, with the smell of funnel cakes outside. I switched from my usual routine to just gentle, focused massage there for a full five minutes. Honestly, she left looking more relaxed than after any fancy treatment. Do you ever get a simple comment that makes you totally shift your approach for a minute?

Yeah, it's wild how a small detail can change the whole session. I had a client once who just mentioned her shoulders always felt cold, even in summer. Instead of the deep tissue I had planned, I just warmed the oil extra and did slow, steady strokes for like ten minutes. She said it was the first time in years they didn't feel that chill. It's not in any textbook, but sometimes you just have to drop the plan and listen to what the body's actually saying right then.

That "listen to what the body's actually saying" part is so true. Makes me wonder how many times we miss those quiet signals because we're stuck on the plan we made before they even walked in.

Read something similar about this in a bodywork study recently... what @ray613 said about ditching the plan is spot on.

Had a client last month who kept rubbing her temples during the consult. I scrapped the scalp massage I had ready and just did slow circles there with my thumbs for maybe seven minutes. She said it was like a pressure valve released. That quiet signal thing @ross.kim mentioned, it really is the whole job sometimes.
