Vent: a senior esthetician told me to skip double cleansing on oily skin

After following her advice for two weeks my breakouts got worse, not better, so I went back to my oil-based first cleanse and my skin cleared up in 3 days - has anyone else had a mentor give advice that just didn't work for your skin type?

Had a friend whose derm told her to stop using moisturizer and it wrecked her face for months.

Had a coworker who stopped using anything on her face after her derm told her she was "over-moisturizing." She ended up with these weird dry patches that looked like little white flakes all over her cheeks and it took three months with a new derm and some super gentle cream to get her skin back to normal. I still don't get why some doctors just tell people to raw dog their face like that.
