Had a client push for pads on a healthy hoof yesterday

I explained the risks of unnecessary intervention, but they were focused on performance. When do you draw the line for horse safety?

Hot take: The line is the horse. Longer response: It's wild to me that we even have to have this talk. The line gets drawn when the horse's basic soundness is on the table. Pads on a healthy hoof just set up future problems, and no ribbon is worth that. In my experience, clients focused only on short term performance are often the ones with the most long term vet bills. You have to be the one to say no, because the horse can't.

Ugh, that's such a tough position to be in.

When did performance become more important than safety, @the_shane?

What if we're judging performance wrong from the start? When safety isn't part of the score, it gets ignored for quick results. Real success means doing things right without cutting corners.
