Just realized warming the shoe slightly makes it bend easier for fitting

Warming the shoe slightly with my torch now makes it bend WAY easier for a perfect fit.

What if you try a hair dryer on the highest setting for a little longer? Holding it close to a stiff area for a couple minutes can make leather soft enough to bend. My winter boots had a hard back seam, and the hair dryer warmed it perfectly without any risk of burning the leather. A torch might work faster, but it is so easy to overheat and crack the material. With a hair dryer, you get a gentle, even heat that does the job safely.

Heat really does change the game for breaking in stiff shoes. It softens up the leather or synthetic material just enough so it gives way without a fight. Gotta be careful with a torch though, easy to overdo it and damage the finish. A hair dryer on high is a safer bet for most people. That little bit of warmth makes the whole molding process so much less of a chore. Smart move figuring that out.

Just picturing someone using a torch on their new boots makes me nervous. I'd probably set the whole pair on fire before they even got comfy. The hair dryer method is definitely the smarter play.

Honestly that torch method gets a bad rap for no good reason. People act like holding a flame near leather is instant ruin, but it's all about control and common sense. A hair dryer just doesn't get hot enough or focused enough to really work the tough spots. You can carefully warm exactly where you need it to give way, which is way more precise. Tbh most of the fear comes from folks who've never actually tried it properly. A quick, careful pass beats sweating over a hair dryer for twenty minutes any day.
