Old mare's owner watched me work for 10 minutes and completely changed my angle

Had a client in Austin who just stood there while I was trimming her mare's front feet. She didn't say anything for like 10 minutes, then asked why I was holding my rasps so close to my body. I told her it was for control, and she just shook her head and said "you're gonna wreck your shoulders by 40, try opening up your stance." I thought she was full of it, but I tried it on the next shoeing and it honestly felt way looser. She used to be a barn manager back in the 80s and apparently watched dozens of farriers come through, so she knew her stuff. Has anyone else gotten good advice from a horse owner that actually stuck with you?
