Old timer told me to quit using nails on draft horses, I didn't listen
Guy named Hank at a clinic in Kentucky said I'd regret using standard nails on a Percheron with thin walls. Sure enough, I popped a quarter crack on a front hoof last Tuesday and had to glue on a composite patch. Any of you run into issues with heavy breeds and nail placement?

Old friend of mine named Dave had a Belgian mare with the same problem. swore by the old timers and used nothing but special race nails he got from a harness shop in Ohio. He let a new farrier talk him into standard nails one time to save money. Within three weeks that mare had a nasty quarter crack that took months to heal right. Dave ended up paying way more for the specialist to fix it than he saved on nails. Now he keeps a stash of those race nails in his truck and won't let anyone touch his horses without them.

Ha yeah that's always how it goes, pay a little now or pay a lot more later. Dave learned the hard way that some stuff you just don't cheap out on lol.
