PSA: That cheap rasp I bought on Amazon cost me twice as much in the long run

Picked up a $15 farrier rasp from some no-name brand online thinking I was being smart with my money. After about 10 trims the teeth were totally dull and I ended up having to redo a few hooves because the finish was rough. Had to buy a proper Nicholson rasp for $45 at my local tack shop and it's still going strong after 3 months of daily use. Anyone else get burned by cheap tools from online marketplaces?

Hold on, is that Nicholson really $45 from the tack shop? Ive seen them for closer to $30 at most places, but maybe prices have gone up in your area. Just something to double check on the pricing side. Your main point about cheap rasps is totally fair though, Ive had the same thing happen with a few budget tools that just wore out way too fast. Its like you pay for it twice, once with your wallet and once with the frustration of a bad finish on the hoof.

@sam_cooper nailed it. That budget rasp sounds like it wasn't even trying.
