Shoutout to that one barn in Ocala with the concrete aisle flooring

I was down in Ocala last month trimming at a big show barn and walked into the aisle to grab my tools. The whole floor was this smooth, sealed concrete with drains every 10 feet. I spent half the day just admiring how easy it was to clean up hoof trimmings and not breathe in dust. Has anyone else worked in a place with flooring that actually made your job easier?

Wait, are we really pretending like concrete is automatically bad for horses? I've seen plenty of horses stand on concrete for years and be totally fine, especially if they're not stuck in a stall 24/7. The whole joint argument gets thrown around a lot but honestly, a lot of that depends on management and footing in the actual turnout areas, not the aisle way they walk through for 30 seconds. Plus, have you ever had to deal with bacteria and ammonia soaking into rubber mats over time? That smell never fully goes away no matter how much you scrub. I'd take a clean, sealed concrete floor over a rubber mat that's basically a pee sponge any day of the week lol.

That concrete floor sounds like a headache for the horses' legs and joints.

@val974 but have you actually seen anyone try those rubber mats or stall mats on top of concrete? I'm curious if that's enough cushion or if it just turns into a slipping hazard when wet.
