Vent: My forge area cleanup made a huge difference in my work flow
I was always tripping over clutter around my forge, so last weekend I decided to tackle it. I got some old metal shelves from a garage sale (cheap, you know) and mounted them on the wall. Now, all my tongs, hammers, and punches have their own spots, labeled with paint markers. I even set up a small rack for my anvil tools so they're not rolling around on the floor. The first day after, I shod three horses without once having to search for a tool (which was nice). It might sound small, but having a tidy space lets me focus on the hoof, not my mess. Plus, my back thanks me for not bending over to pick things up all the time. If your workspace is a bit chaotic, I'd say give it a go, it makes a big difference.

Yeah, that's so true about the clutter. I read something once about how visual mess fights for your brain's attention, even if you don't realize it. Clearing it out is like freeing up mental ram, lol. Your story about not searching for tools totally proves it, you just get into a better flow state. It's wild how much a simple shelf system can change the whole feel of the workday. I really need to do the same with my own bench, it's a disaster zone right now.

It's funny how this works with other spaces too, like a messy kitchen counter makes cooking feel like a chore. The mental load of stuff just sitting there adds up across the whole house. Have you found that cleaning one area makes you want to tackle another?

Yeah margaretr76, my whole house is a domino effect of clutter panic once I start cleaning one spot.
