A tailor in my building told me my seams were too safe and it bugged me for a week

I was dropping off a busted zipper at this little shop in Astoria and the guy, must be 70, grabbed my sample jacket off the counter. He said 'you sew like you're scared of the fabric' and pointed out how I was finishing every seam with a double stitch when a single would do. At first I was annoyed, but then I looked at my last 5 pieces and he was right, I've been hiding nicer drape under over-engineering. Has anyone else had a random comment from a stranger that made you totally rework your construction style?

Man, that tailor really saw something you didn't, and that takes guts to point out to a stranger. It's wild how one little comment can sit with you and change how you look at your own work, even when it stings at first. Good on you for actually listening instead of just brushing him off.

Hold on @paulnguyen, you're making this tailor sound like some kind of life coach lol. A guy said a thing about a jacket, not like he delivered a deep truth about your whole existence. I mean, sure, it's nice he wasn't a jerk about it, but "guts" to point out a bad fit? That's pretty low stakes honestly. Maybe you're just reading way too much into a random comment from a guy who probably wanted to sell you a better suit anyway. People say stuff all the time, doesn't mean every little remark needs to change how you see your work. Just take the win and move on, it's not that deep.
