Appreciation post: Found a vintage fabric shop in Portland that changed how I look at patterns
Went to Portland last weekend to visit a friend and stumbled into this little shop called Fabric Row on SE Hawthorne. They had bolts of fabric from the 60s and 70s that were still in perfect shape. The patterns on them were wild, like geometric stuff you just don't see anymore. I grabbed a 3 yard piece with these orange and brown zigzags for $12. It made me realize how much modern fabric designs play it safe compared to what they used to do. Have any of you found old fabric that inspired a project in a totally different direction?

I got a 2 yard piece of brown and mustard yellow floral from the 60s at an estate sale in Seattle once. It had this faded look that modern reproductions can't nail no matter how hard they try. But here's the thing, how do you actually prep that old fabric for a project without ruining it? I tried washing mine and the dye bled everywhere. Did you wash yours or just go straight to cutting? Lot of that 60s stuff is not colorfast and I learned that the hard way.

$12 for 3 yards of that old zigzag stuff sounds like a deal, but I'll take modern prints over groovy leftovers any day.
