Back in 2019 I figured patchwork jackets were just a thrift store trend that would fade in a season. Then last spring I met a designer at a market in Portland who spent 40 minutes showing me how she joined three pairs of old Levi's with a hand whipstitch so clean you could barely see the seam. She had a denim dress made from six pairs of jeans that fit like it was cut from new yardage, and the wash shading actually matched across every panel. Now I sketch every jacket around reused fabric first. Has anyone else had a thrifted piece change how you plan a whole collection?
